Can a 40-hour film of a Massachusetts garden or a project documenting rice growing over 40 years help us to understand our planet better? Who makes and who watches such projects? Matthew Sweet is joined by film historian Becca Voelcker who has watched projects recorded in Japan, Colombia, Scotland and America; Thomas Halliday, who charts the earth's ecologies through deep time; and the environmentalist Rupert Read, and artist James Bridle.

Can you give a house a wake? Is the wake, rather, for a childhood? What does this wake sound like? Maybe it sounds like the wind that blows off the moor into the trees that tap the roof slates. Or like the curlew who sings from the eaves even after I've gone. Or like the Welsh words that describe this house in its mossy topography, words that let me name my identity, words that I can translate for you.
